A Farewell Gift Built Around a Real Career

After two decades at Google, Mike had earned a send-off that reflected far more than a job title. The brief was to create a keepsake in which his working life became the basis of an entertaining, highly personal story.

Instead of simply illustrating a collection of workplace anecdotes, we built a complete comic-book adventure around the things that made Mike recognisable to his team: his Friday snippet reminders, his determination to keep projects moving, his fondness for Ribena and his close bond with his dog, Huckleberry.

The finished comic could be enjoyed as a superhero story, while those who knew Mike would recognise the small details woven into the plot.

Meet The Schnipper and Huckleberry

Mike’s superhero alter ego, The Schnipper, takes his name from the snippets he sends to colleagues. What begins as an ordinary Friday at Google HQ soon turns into a crisis when those snippets vanish and the office descends into confusion.

Huckleberry is more than a background character. As Mike’s canine companion and fellow superhero, he spots trouble, delivers some of the comic’s best reactions and helps take the fight to the villain.

We designed both characters as recognisable comic-book heroes, using Google-inspired colours and energetic action scenes to make the transformation feel playful and memorable.

The Edge: An Office Joke Becomes the Villain

Every superhero needs a worthy opponent. In this story, that opponent is The Edge, a mysterious figure lurking in the depths of the dark web. The character is a mischievous nod to Microsoft’s Edge browser, imagined here as a villain determined to bring Google down.

His attack turns everyday workplace frustrations into comic-book jeopardy: disappearing snippets, spiralling budgets, overflowing spreadsheets and an office rapidly losing morale.

It’s deliberately ridiculous, which is exactly why it works. The humour comes from treating the familiar pressures of office life as though they were world-ending supervillain threats. Mike and Huckleberry must step in to restore order.

Turning Inside Jokes into an Actual Story

A personalised comic works best when the recipient’s real personality shapes what happens on the page. Here, the Friday snippet reminder isn’t just a passing reference; it becomes central to the problem that Mike must solve.

The story grows from an office mystery into a showdown in the villain’s lair, complete with a tidal wave of spreadsheets and a supersized snippet counterattack. Meanwhile, Mike’s colleagues react to the disaster in ways that give the comic its distinctly workplace sense of humour.

By the final page, budgets are back under control, colleagues are celebrating and Mike can finally relax. The comic closes with a direct thank-you for his twenty years of hard work, bringing the fantasy back to the real occasion.

Why Comics Work for Employee Milestones

This project shows a different side of custom corporate comics. They don’t always have to explain a product, train a team or support a marketing campaign. They can also commemorate the people behind a business.

For retirements, farewells and long-service milestones, a comic offers room for individual personalities, colleagues, pets, workplace traditions and the jokes that would mean little to anyone outside the team. Those details are what make the story feel as though it could only have been created for one person.

The Schnipper is a celebration of Mike’s time at Google, not a Google advertising campaign. Its purpose was recognition: turning twenty years of shared working life into a story worth keeping.

In Their Words

Aura and her team are absolutely top-notch comic book artists. I really enjoyed this custom made comic book. The writing was excellent, the artwork was beautiful, and the story was both funny and captivating. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a special gift for a friend or work colleague.
