From conception to completion, the entire experience of making this comic was exceptionally easy. I had the vague idea of making a surprise comic as a 5th anniversary present, but had no real idea about how to go about it. Every custom comic book is fully hand drawn by a professional illustrator. We don’t use AI or automation.

Our custom comic books are a form of commissioned artwork. Each project involves original illustration, creative storytelling and a professional artist working directly from your brief. Nothing is generated from a template or produced using AI. You're commissioning original artwork made specifically for you.

We work from your photos to capture real likeness — faces, hair, expressions, body language, even personal items that matter to you. You’ll see a draft before we complete the comic artwork, and you can request as many changes as you like at this stage. Once the artwork is finished, smaller edits to colours, text and likenesses are still included at no extra charge. The result is artwork that actually looks like you, not a generic template.

This is why our prices are higher than other custom comic companies. We don’t just regurgitate the information you share with us, we don't just trace photos. Instead, we get creative with your story and turn it into a compelling and engaging comic masterpiece.

How Many Panels Do You Need?

Firstly, let's explain what a panel is. One panel = one picture. So one moment, one interaction. Our custom comic books start at twelve pages with eleven panels. We used to make our shortest comics 8 pages, but we added in some extra pages so when the comic is printed it feels more substantial.

The format goes like this:

  • Page 1 - front cover

  • Page 2 - photo page

  • Page 3 - title page with message to recipient

  • Pages 4–10 - comic story pages. This is where the eleven panels will be drawn

  • Page 11 - photo page

  • Page 12 - back cover with a photo

The photo pages include some of your favourite photos of the recipient. It’s a nice personal touch, which we have found is well liked. For a couple’s love story, eleven panels is just fine. They might be the first meeting, first “I love you”, moving in together, first vacation, proposal, wedding, honeymoon, buying a dream home, kids and the present day. If you want more events included, or a more detailed story, then you might opt for more panels. We have a few options on the website, but they are just the popular choices. We can make your custom comic book as long as you like.

If you opt for a fictional story, perhaps turning you and your partner into superheroes, then I would say fourteen panels is the minimum, as fictional stories require more explaining. We need to set the scene, introduce the characters, introduce the problem — every good story has a problem — build the story, and then end with a great finale.

However long or short your custom comic book, the final result will be incredible. We always strive to go above and beyond what’s expected, which is why we only have five-star reviews. We don’t just take your story and tell it the way you told us, we creatively engineer it to be an engaging masterpiece of comic artwork. On par with the likes of DC and Marvel.

Lastly, we don’t expect you to know how many pages and comic panels you need. Most orders start with a conversation. We have a chat feature on our website, where we encourage you to share your story ideas. We can then brainstorm, make suggestions and share our thoughts — which will help you understand the cost and also what your final comic story will include. How Much Will it Cost?

The price is determined by the number of pages and comic panels. So the shortest comic book we create is 12 pages with eleven panels. We have also created much larger custom comic books. You won’t see these sizes offered on our website; we just show the more popular comic lengths. Once a comic book starts to get to 20 pages, we print it as a hardback comic book instead.

If your budget is smaller, then you should check out our custom comic strips. You can have more panels for your money because there is less space for us to fill with drawings, so they are faster to complete.

So whether your budget is relatively small or very big, we can accommodate you. Whether you opt for a comic book or a comic strip, they are both drawn to the same high level of detail, both are drawn by a professional. Both will make your loved one's day.

How the Process Works

So firstly, as I have said before, most jobs start with a conversation. This is where you understand what your custom comic book might look like and the cost. You will then purchase the custom comic book and we will email you asking for more information. We will ask questions and request photos. The process is pretty thorough.

Once we have everything, I will personally write and design your story. Then one of the artists on my team will draw it. First a rough draft, which I will send to you for your feedback. You can request ANY changes you like at this stage. We will apply the edits and complete the artwork.

Once completed, smaller edits such as colours, text and likenesses of characters, places and pets are done at NO extra charge. But say you decide to change an entire panel, then we will charge for that.

This process works really well. It’s easy and smooth and most of all fun. You don’t need to worry about forgetting things, or not liking the final artwork. We are so thorough and we have been doing this for so long, that every single custom comic book we create is easy for every single customer. We edit until you are happy, but I have to say we have NEVER been in a position whereby we are editing and editing, over and over.

When finished, we will arrange for two printed copies of your custom comic book at a printer local to you. All you will need to do is go and collect them.

How do I get started? What do you need from me?

Many of our custom comic books begin with a simple conversation! Some customers have a clear story in mind, others have a few ideas, and some have absolutely no idea where to start. All of these are perfectly fine.

We'll help you brainstorm ideas, develop the concept and write your entire comic book story. You don't need to be creative or have anything prepared. Story development and writing are all included in the price.

What if I want a different number of pages and panels to what if offered on the website?

Our custom comic books start at 12 pages, with additional options in multiples of four: 16, 20, 24 pages and beyond.

Each book includes dedicated pages for photographs, a personalised title and message, and a back cover, alongside your illustrated comic story.

There's no fixed limit on the number of comic panels. If you'd like a different combination of pages and panels from those listed on our website, simply get in touch and we'll create a suitable option for you.

Who writes the comic story, me or you?

We do! Our professional writers develop and write your comic book story, working closely with you to make it personal, entertaining and completely original.

Some customers come to us with a fully formed idea, others have a few thoughts, and many have no idea where to begin. Whatever your starting point, we'll ask the right questions, brainstorm creative concepts and develop a story you'll love.

If you've already written your own story, we're happy to work with it too. We may suggest a few changes to help it flow naturally as a comic.

Once we've agreed on the storyline, we'll gather the finer details and request photographs of the people, pets, places and personal items you'd like included.

How is my custom comic book created?

Every custom comic book is professionally illustrated by hand using digital drawing tools. We don't use AI-generated artwork, photo tracing or automated comic generators.

We begin by developing your story and creating a rough illustrated draft. This shows how the story will unfold across the panels, including the characters, scenes and dialogue. We'll email the draft to you so you can review everything and request changes.

Once you're happy with the draft, our artists create the finished illustrations. You'll then have another opportunity to review the completed artwork and request minor adjustments, such as changes to text, colours or character likenesses.

We work from your photographs to capture recognisable likenesses of the people, pets, places and personal items featured in your comic.

How many photos do I need to supply?

That depends entirely on your story. We'll tell you exactly which photographs we need as we develop your comic book.

These might include photographs of people, pets, locations, clothing, vehicles or personal belongings that feature in the story.

You don't need to organise everything before getting started. We'll guide you through the process and request the relevant photographs as we go.

One thing to note, we are only as good as your photos, so make sure you send high res clear photos. We need to be able to clearly see people's faces. 

Can I really make unlimited edits?

Yes! We offer unlimited revisions during the draft stage, so you can make sure your story, characters, dialogue and panel layouts are exactly how you want them before the final illustrations begin.

At this stage, you can request substantial changes, including replacing entire panels or changing parts of the storyline.

Once the finished artwork has been completed, minor adjustments to text, colours and character likenesses are still included. However, major changes, such as replacing an entire completed panel, may incur an additional fee.

Our thorough draft approval process is designed to make sure you're happy with everything before we move on to the final artwork.

How long will my comic take to create?

Our shortest custom comic books take a minimum of 12 days to complete the artwork. Larger books with more pages and panels will take longer.

Every illustration is created from scratch by our professional artists, so turnaround times depend on the size and complexity of your comic book, as well as our current workload.

If you're working towards a special occasion or have a particular deadline, please send us a message before ordering. We'll do our best to accommodate your timeframe, although a rush fee may apply.

What kind of stories can be turned into a custom comi book?

How do I print my custom comic book?

Two professionally printed copies of your custom comic book are included in the price.

Once your artwork is complete, we'll arrange printing through a local printer near you, where you can collect your finished books.

You'll also receive a high-resolution digital file of your comic book, which you can keep and use to order additional printed copies in the future.

What if I don’t like my custom comic book?

Your comic book is a completely personal creation, so we want you to love the finished result. No customer has ever left with a piece of comic art they didn't love. We're very proud of that. 

That's why we involve you throughout the creative process, from developing the initial story to approving the illustrated draft and reviewing the final artwork.

You'll have unlimited opportunities to revise the draft before the finished illustrations begin, and minor adjustments to completed artwork are included too. Significant changes to finished panels may involve an additional charge.
